NHS ID App Design & Deployment

Yoti app main page with ID card callout

March 2020 to (ongoing)

Julian was the Technical Architect for the NHS England and Improvement project to deploy the Yoti app as a digital ID app to 12,000 users internally (NHS England, NHS Improvement, NHSX and HSIB) with the option to extend the app to other NHS organisations.

The initial release was targetted at providing consistent digital ID’s for around 1,000 essential office-based and emergency response workers during the COVID-19 crisis. This was brought forward from plans for a wider project.

The 2nd release enabled usage across all NHS England, NHS Improvement, NHSX and HSIB employees. It also allowed use on Android in addition to iOS.

The 3rd phase of the project was a proof of concept to integrate the digital ID with building access control systems.

The project also involved working with HR and other colleagues to standardise, improve andautomate the feed of people data from the NHS’s HR system.
